The Visual Key to Unlocking Your Water's pH Stability
The Taylor R-0008-C Total Alkalinity Indicator is the essential color-changing reagent used in the professional titration test for Total Alkalinity in pool and spa water. This 2-ounce high-volume refill provides the vivid green-to-red color transition that allows for precise, drop-by-drop measurement. For service professionals and serious pool owners, this indicator is the critical visual component that transforms a water sample into a clear, actionable result, forming the foundation for a perfectly balanced and stable pool environment.
Key Features & Benefits:
-
Provides a Clear, Visual Endpoint: This reagent contains Bromcresol Green indicator dye. When added to a prepared water sample, it turns the solution green. As you titrate with acid reagent (R-0009), the color will shift sharply to a reddish-pink, providing an unambiguous signal that the test is complete and the calculation can be made.
-
The Foundation of pH Stability: Total Alkalinity (TA) is the "buffer" that prevents rapid pH swings (pH bounce). An accurate TA reading, enabled by this indicator, allows you to properly adjust this buffer. This protects your equipment from corrosion, prevents scaling, and maximizes the effectiveness of your sanitizer.
-
Professional-Grade Reliability & Value: The 2-ounce (R-0008-C) size offers a larger, more economical supply for frequent testers and professionals, ensuring you never run out during the critical swimming season. It is manufactured to the highest standards for consistent, reliable color performance.
-
Works in Conjunction with Other Reagents: This indicator is designed to be used after R-0007 (to neutralize chlorine) and before R-0009 (the titrant) as part of the complete, proven Total Alkalinity test sequence in Taylor 2000 Series kits.
-
Maintains Test Kit Integrity: This is a direct refill for the R-0008 reagent supplied in your test kit. Replacing consumed or expired reagents is essential for maintaining the accuracy of your entire water testing system. Taylor recommends replacing this reagent annually.
How It Is Used:
The R-0008-C is used in a specific test sequence:
-
Add 25 mL of pool water to the test vial.
-
Add 2 drops of R-0007 Sodium Thiosulfate (to neutralize chlorine) and swirl.
-
Add 1 drop of R-0008-C Total Alkalinity Indicator and swirl; the sample will turn green.
-
Slowly add R-0009 Sulfuric Acid Titrant drop by drop, swirling after each drop, until the sample changes from green to a reddish-brown (or pink) endpoint.
-
The number of drops of R-0009 used equals the Total Alkalinity in ppm.
Important Note: This product is a chemical reagent refill for use with specific Taylor liquid test kits (e.g., K-2005, K-2006) and is not a standalone product. It must be used with the other components (R-0007, R-0009) of the Total Alkalinity test.
Ideal For:
-
Pool and Spa Service Professionals
-
Owners of Taylor 2000 Series test kits (K-2005, K-2006)
-
Commercial pool operators
-
Serious pool owners committed to precise water balance
